REAL Youth Entrepreneurship Camp
NC REAL has been leading Entrepreneurship Camps since 1998. Through that experience, we have learned a great deal about what makes a Camp work for participants and staff. We have learned how to prepare instructors for their new and challenging roles as REAL facilitators, how to meet the personal and learning needs of people who are away from home for a period of time, and how to create an atmosphere that promotes fun and learning for everyone.
The primary goal of the REAL Youth Entrepreneurship Camp is to introduce entrepreneurship as a viable career option to youth in their local communities. Through community asset identification, youth will identify opportunities for small business ventures. As a member of a team, each team will go through the business planning process to create and implement a business plan. Specific camp objectives include:
- to create an atmosphere of fun
- to experience life in a college setting
- to meet and learn from successful entrepreneurs
- to learn to work and cooperate in groups
- to develop critical thinking and life skills
- to identify and encourage entrepreneurs
- to help participants learn about their community
- to gain an understanding of entrepreneurship as a viable career option
- to generate business ideas
- to develop leadership abilities and skills
- to identify and evaluate entrepreneurial opportunities within their community
- to learn how technology can be used in small businesses
- to develop and implement a business plan
Note: The REAL Youth Entrepreneurship Camp curriculum is licensed only to teachers/educators who attend a REAL Youth Camp Training.
