Business 101 Kickoff A Success!

Business 101 Kickoff A Success!

The Caldwell County Chamber Matters
Business News March 2009

Over the past several months the Caldwell County Chamber of Commerce has worked as partners with Caldwell County Schools, CCC&TI, and Communities In Schools (CIS) to establish Business 101: A Blueprint for Student Success. Utilizing NC REAL, an established curriculum which focuses on developing entrepreneurial skills, a pilot program was recently launched with CIS students at Collettsville, Happy Valley, Hudson Middle, Kings Creek and Oak Hill. The more than 75 students who participated in an afternoon kick-off shared their first attempt at business development in a special presentation for their parents. Students will spend one afternoon per week from early March until mid-May creating non-profit and for-profit businesses to benefit their individual schools.

A special thanks to Wayne Lady of Fatz, Sandy Russ of The Russ Agency, Kelly Melton of Bank of Granite and Lisa Sims of the Economic Development Commission, and Dick Mitchell, retired business leader for serving as business mentors for the kick-off sessions.

Please contact melissa@caldwellacochamber.org if you would like to serve as a business mentor to a group of creative young students. No long-term commitment is required, any amount of time you can provide would be appreciated.
