Hop on the Bus! Business Plan Competition received recognition for their accomplishments at the North Carolina Council for Economic Education’s award ceremonies in Greensboro and Asheville.
The Hop on the BUS! High School Business Plan competition is a state-wide competition open to all North Carolina High School students. The competition is held in the spring and the fall. Business Showcase at the Broyhill Civic Center
The Caldwell County Business Showcase is sponsored by the Caldwell County Chamber of Commerce and is held each year to allow locally owned and operated businesses a chance to network with one another and showcase their businesses. This year, the Chamber of Commerce invited CIS students to showcase their business venture at the Business Showcase. NC REAL has trained 46 REAL Facilitators in the new REAL Ag-Entrepreneurship Curriculum throughout the state. The REAL Ag-Entrepreneurship Curriculum was developed through a grant from the NC Tobacco Trust Fund. The first training was held at A-B Tech Community College on May 11 and the second training was held at Wilson Community College on August 10, 2010. The first ever REAL Ag-Entrepreneurship Short Course was held this spring at Edgecombe Community College at the Rocky Mount Campus. The REAL Ag-Entrepreneurship Short course is part of the Regional Ag-Entrepreneur Development Initiative funded by the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission. The curriculum, developed by NC REAL, covers the basics of the business planning process for the farm business. The farm-based businesses included sellers at local farmer’s markets, specialty crops, and meat goats. Melinda McKinney started the Teachers’ Connection after doing extensive market research. She found that a need existed and how she could fulfill that need.
