REAL Professional Development Program

In order to be successful, REAL Entrepreneurship facilitators need the right kind of professional development opportunities, in sufficient quantity, reinforced over time through contact with like-minded peers. The REAL Entrepreneurship Professional Development Program consists of Institutes, In-Services, seminars, workshops, assistance in developing community support teams, and on-site technical assistance. The objectives of REAL Entrepreneurship’s Professional Development Program are:

  • to help REAL facilitators develop and expand their knowledge and practice of experiential, student-centered education;
  • to help REAL facilitators develop sufficient mastery of entrepreneurship and small business development, so as to be useful resources to their students;
  • to help REAL facilitators be effective managers of the REAL Entrepreneurship program in their schools and communities;
  • to create and facilitate networking among facilitators to help them help each other to provide students with an exceptional learning experience; and
  • to develop REAL facilitators’ ability to serve as resources and trainers for future professional REAL Entrepreneurship development activities.
In-Service Seminar for REAL Certified Facilitators

As part of NC REAL’s commitment to our certified REAL educators, we offer a yearly In-Service Seminar. The In-Service is required for first and second year REAL certified educators to meet their professional development requirement.

In-Service Seminars allow educators to further develop their knowledge and familiarity of REAL’s curriculum, network with other educators around North Carolina, and learn more helpful ideas to improve their own courses. The In-Service Seminar will be a 1.5 day retreat, and is usually held in late winter/early spring.

In-Service Seminar is free for the 1st and 2nd year facilitators. NC REAL will cover your lodging (double occupancy), meals eaten at the conference center, breaks, travel (for participants from the same site – expenses for one car to travel will be covered, i.e. carpool), tuition, and a substitute if one is necessary.

Registration fee for 3rd year+ facilitators is $250, which includes lodging, most meals, and tuition. All other travel expenses are your responsibility.
